Headmaster Ali Brown began training in Tukong Moosul at age 8 and has taught children's programs for over 15 years. He understands what kids need — not just the kicks and blocks, but the mindset that carries over into school, friendships, and life. Our programs welcome children ages 4 and up, with no prior experience or fitness level required.
Confidence
Tukong pushes kids beyond their comfort zones in a safe, supportive environment. Whether your child struggles with bullying, a tough social situation, or just needs a confidence boost, our instructors provide the tools to build real self-esteem — on the mat and off it.
Respect
Respect is the cornerstone of Tukong. Students learn traditional practices like bowing and proper terminology alongside practical behaviors: focusing in class, encouraging teammates, staying safe during drills, and showing self-compassion when they make mistakes.
Community
Tukong Austin is more than a school — it's a second home. Students encourage each other, help each other with techniques, and build real friendships. Our instructors become mentors, and the relationships formed here tend to last well beyond the dojang.
What to Expect at Your Child's First Class
Show up in comfortable athletic clothes — no uniform needed for the trial. An instructor will greet you, explain what to expect, and make sure your child feels welcome before they step on the mat. The first class focuses on fundamentals: basic stances, a kick or two, and learning how to bow in and bow out. It's intentionally accessible. Most kids leave wanting to come back.
Parents are welcome to watch from the sidelines.

What age can kids start?
We welcome children ages 4 and up. There is no maximum age — Tukong is a lifelong practice.
Does my child need prior experience?
Not at all. Our Children's All Belt class is designed for complete beginners. Kids of all athletic backgrounds start from scratch and progress at their own pace.
What does a typical class look like?
Classes start with a warm-up and stretching, move into fundamental techniques like kicks, blocks, and stances, then finish with belt-specific curriculum. The atmosphere is energetic, encouraging, and fun.
What should my child wear to their first class?
Comfortable athletic clothing — shorts or sweatpants and a t-shirt work great. After enrolling, students wear a dobok (uniform), which is available for purchase.
Is sparring safe for kids?
Safety is foundational to Tukong. Sparring is introduced gradually and always supervised. Students learn control and awareness before any contact drills are introduced.
Are contracts required?
No contracts and no enrollment fees. Memberships are month-to-month. We also offer family discounts for households with multiple students.
